Versailles, France has a rich musical tradition that dates all the way back to the 17th century and Louis VII. The town is still a great place to enjoy music of all kinds. Below are a few places to take in a concert.
L’Opéra Royal de Versailles
L’Opéra Royal de Versailles (Royal Opera of Versailles) hosts many musical events throughout the year. In addition to operas, l’Opéra hosts both classical and contemporary concerts. Most of the Opera’s concerts are held in the Opera hall itself, but concerts are also hosted in various locations around the Palace of Versailles. These location include the Galerie des Glaces (the Hall of Mirrors), the Galerie des batailles, the Chappelle Royale, and even outside at the Bassin de Neptune.
Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles
Another great place to hear music is the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles. The Centre was created by the French government to encourage and promote baroque music and is located in the L’Hôtel des Menus-Plaisirs, which was originally the building where parties and events were planned for the French king. The Centre organizes various classical concerts throughout the region and hosts an adult and children’s choir.
Théâtre Montansier
The Théâtre Montansier is another beautiful place to take in a concert. This theater was constructed in 1777 under the reign of Louis the XVI and Maire-Antoinette and currently hosts plays, concerts, and ballet. The stage itself is located in an ornate room with 4 levels of seating.
L’Onde is another stage that offers a wide variety of musical entertainment. Like some of the others, l’Onde has both contemporary and classical concerts, as well as theater, danse, circus, movies, lectures.
